HIDEAWAY OF THE YEAR Coolbawn Quay was voted "Hideaway of the Year 2005" by Georgina Campbell, Ireland's famous food and hotel critic. Georgina says in her 2005 guide "Spas and retreats are appearing all over Ireland at the moment, but few could rival the beauty of this magic place"
"Image Magazine" When Image Magazine visited Coolbawn Quay, these are some of the things they wrote: "...pretty much anything you ask for at Coolbawn Quay can be provided. part five-star holiday resort, part spa, part marina, it sits on the very edge of Lough Derg, a faux village in vernacular style that, not yet ten years old, has already settled into the landscape. Owners Jay and Kevin Brophy once owned Le Cirque nightblub in Ballsbridge and the discerning eye that made that club so exclusive has been brought to bear on every detail here....comfortable beds with big pillows and duvets...bathrobes laid out, fluffy clean towels and in the sitting room, a fire laid, music playing and a boisterious arrangement of wild flowers....it doesn't get better than that"
"Food & Wine Magazine" Food & Wine Magazine's article included some of the following: " For breakfast choose from honeyed porridge, home baked breads, full Irish or our favourite - Coolbawn muesli with Greey yoghurt and fruit. Lunch can be enjoyed over a pint in the smart clubhouse bar where a cosy fire and stack of newspapers inspire laziness. On finder days sit outdoors and enjoy the peaceful lake views and sheltered harbour. Dinner is by candlelight in a gorgeious room where chef Rob Oosterbaan uses quality produce and increasingly home-grown organic herbs and vegetables for simply executed favourites."
"Health and Living Magazine" Ann Bracken wrote of her stay at Coolbawn Quay: "Coolbawn works on its own time and so there is no being ushered to the restaurant, as staff let us take things at our own pace. The food was delicious.... you could taste the freshness of the ingredients.....On Saturday morning we awoke at 10am after a restful night to a knock at the door. After a scurry of activity, we were left with a sumptuous breakfast and itinerary of our planned treatments (which were) thoroughly enjoyable in relaxed and fresh surroundings with genuinely friendly and prefessional staff.... an ideal location for hen parties... an oasis away from hectic modern living."
